Both RAAM and AFSD have been optimized to find the optimal setup also in terms of energy consumption, in order to achive a process as green as possible.
For RAAM, a structured DoE testing has been carried out to find the effect of the different parameters.

However, not all possible setups are feasible; hence, an analysis of the “threshold” condition to obtain an acceptable bead was conducted to define the constraints of the model and perform a constrained optimisation. Because the most influential variables have been identified as the welding current and wire speed, the constraint analysis was limited to these two variables. This model is valid only for a specific material and must be recalculated for a different one; however, the approach developed constitutes a fast procedure to be repeated.

For AFSD, Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) curve and its corresponding equation as a function of the Deposition Rate (DR) were derived based on an experimental campaign. It was found the trend that relate the process parameters to the energy consumption. It is important to notice that some sample have coarse internal defects requiring extensive machining, making them not acceptable.
