Rod Wire Additive Manufacturing

Within ALICE, the deposition equipment for recycled wire produced by the FSE has been develoepd. The system was designed based on wire characteristics and was connected to a cartesian movement apparatus. The system can independently control the deposition characteristics (e.g. voltage, current, and wire speed) and deposition along the three axes. The system was completely integrated and could be controlled using standard GCODE programming, where the arc ignition and wire speed were included as special macros

To optimize the process parameter of RAAM process, several tests have been conducted, as a result, the best deposition parameters are the ones reported

To abate the level of porosity, a cleaning treatment has been implemented, based on an acetone bath before the FSE process and repeated before the deposition step. 

Simple geometries have been produced as a sample to assess the process capability. The surface is not as smooth as the usual aluminum depositions due to the presence of black dots and regions, which are the result of the presence of impurities during welding.

With the 3D microtomography is possible to analyze the internal part of the sample in order to assess the presence of internal porosity and its distribution.
